In the lizard®, a new and unique solution for heap leaching and dry tailings stacking, the crawler-mounted tripper car is decoupled from the conveyor bridge, which enables it to be controlled independently of the bridge. Decoupling brings several benefits. The transitions between the bridge segments are easier because there is no stress from a traveling tripper car on the top of the bridge. Since the tripper car is no longer traveling on the bridge, the loads for dimensioning the bridge are significantly reduced. Especially with longer conveyor bridge systems, the lizard® pays off through a lower investment cost and fewer fatigue issues on the bridge structures. That significantly reduces maintenance requirements, which increases the availability of this mobile stacking bridge. By saving weight, the lizard® cuts costs as well. Operators also benefit from a slimmer, lighter bridge, a lower bridge height, smaller bridge crawlers, and lower ground pressure. The same lightweight design can also be used for the reclaiming bridge.

A key advantage of the lizard® is its multi-crawler chassis. Building on proven expertise in this field, thyssenkrupp developed a unique productivity-boosting solution: the so-called float system, a multi-crawler chassis with no override control, is attached to the tripper car. The double crawlers with no steering cylinders ensure unrestricted maneuverability in all directions. What’s more, the system can be attached to any crawler to avoid the large turning circles of conventional gearing systems.

The ability to flexibly control the mechanically independent multiple crawlers is a game-changer in mobile mining equipment.

The float system allows the lizard® to be operated flexibly. When a stacking row has been completed, the tripper car is at either the front or rear end of the bridge. Before moving to the next stacking row, the tripper car turns its crawlers through 90° in the direction of the bridge movement without impacting the performance of the system. In this way, the tripper car and the stacking bridge can move backwards or forwards as a single stacking system – in line with the desired stacking plan.
